Sitar for Soul

The traditional way of playing the sitar is through a solo sitar recital, where the tabla accompanies
the sitar. The sitar is used to showcase the traditional ragas of North Indian classical music, while the
tabla highlights the intricacies of rhythm.

"Sitar Brothers"

Sitar Brothers was a unique sitar jugalbandi presented by the grand disciples of Padma Bhushan Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan, created as a tribute to his extraordinary musical legacy. Both Rohan Dasgupta and Deepsankar Bhattacharyjee are disciples of Pandit Harashankar Bhattacharya, one of the foremost torchbearers of the Jafferkhani Baaj and a distinguished disciple of Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan.

Together, they presented one of the rarest and most demanding styles of sitar playing—the Jafferkhani Baaj, the distinctive musical idiom conceived and developed by Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan. The project celebrated the lyrical beauty, intricate techniques, and rare compositions of this unique tradition, brought to life through the duo's musical sensitivity, technical mastery, and deep understanding of their Guru's vision.

United not only by music but by a bond of brotherhood, Rohan and Deepsankar dedicated themselves to preserving and sharing this extraordinary legacy with audiences across India and abroad. Their performances earned widespread appreciation and recognition, making Sitar Brothers a heartfelt musical journey rooted in tradition, devotion, and artistic excellence.

With the untimely demise of Rohan Dasgupta, this remarkable jugalbandi has come to an irreplaceable end. While Sitar Brothers can no longer be presented on stage, its music, memories, and shared artistic vision continue to live on. The project remains a lasting tribute to two musicians whose bond transcended performance, and to a friendship and brotherhood that will forever resonate through the timeless legacy of the Jafferkhani Baaj.
